Philosophy

Every therapist has a theoretical orientation to their approach with healing clients. Mine is an eclectic approach based on the client’s individual needs. 

Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, CBT, is the evidenced-based, most effective treatment for issues such as depression, bi-polar, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, difficult personality traits, and much more. The foundation of this theory is that thoughts, emotions, and behaviors all influence each other, and to change behaviors to improve ability to manage emotions, it is important to increase your awareness of your thoughts and master them in the moment.

Mindfulness is an increasingly popular practice in the healing professions and has been clinically proven to be helpful in treatment of mood and pain issues. These skills help an individual increase their awareness of what is happening inside their mind and body, and with gentle non-judgement, helps them decrease suffering by guiding their own reactions.

Unresolved trauma and loss can manifest itself through mood disorders. In our initial sessions we will complete an assessment together that will help you understand the pivotal moments in your life that have lead to how you are currently engaging in your life.

If you are looking for a therapist for your younger child, I would work with you individually or in family work, over treating any child under the age of thirteen.

Some people are goal oriented and want to identify an objective and achieve it within a certain amount of sessions, and this too is something to consider when figuring out what approach to take.

Family therapy is something that includes the understanding of relationships, multi-generational patterns, and identifying and changing unhelpful communication patterns. Many times the ones we are closest to feel the impact of our suffering and can be unintentionally contributing to patterns that are unhelpful in your recovery. They can also be your best supports and incorporating them into therapy can be extremely beneficial.

The therapeutic experience will guide you through a deep learning and understanding of yourself, and help you uncover unhelpful patterns that are manifesting your suffering. Once we have reached stabilization, therapy then shifts towards enhancing and growth towards a self fulfilling life. I am honored to take that journey with you.
